How to measure an IFC model online

Distances, angles, areas and real UTM coordinates on any IFC, straight in the browser. Measuring in Geoma is free and snaps to the real geometry rather than approximating.

  1. Open your file at geomaifc.com/app (drag the .ifc — more detail here).
  2. Go to 3D View → Load 3D and press the ↔ Measure button.
  3. Pick the mode: Point to point, Polyline, Angle, Area, Coordinates (reads real X,Y,Z) or Edges (measures an exact edge).
  4. Turn on Snap: every click jumps to the nearest vertex or edge — exact measurements, not eyeballed. You can lock an axis (X/Y/Z) for purely horizontal or vertical measurements, or lock perpendicular to the face for thicknesses.
  5. A guide line follows the cursor with the live distance, and the panel shows the total, ΔX/ΔY/ΔZ and the horizontal projection. In Coordinates mode, the real UTM position of the point.

Measuring on an iPad, on site

One finger taps and marks points (snapping adjusts to the vertex), two fingers zoom and pan, three orbit. A two-finger double tap reframes the model.

What if I need the model quantities?

For volumes, areas and lengths across every element at once — rather than measured by hand — use the automatic quantity take-off and pull it into Excel.
